Guardianship/conservatorship law is designed to "guard" incompetent people, "conserve" their assets, and "protect" the taxpaying public from the ward becoming a public charge. Over the years, the law has been misused, misapplied, or even manipulated to unjustly enrich court-appointed fiduciaries at the expense of and to the detriment of the very people they are court-appointed to protect. Women in Design (WiD) and Latin GSD, in collaboration with the Department of Landscape Architecture, present “Landscape Architecture in Latin America: Unpacking Theory, Practice, and Agency.” This symposium will provide an opportunity to debate the current and future state of landscape architecture in Latin America. Latin America is formed by a diverse set of territories, offering both challenges and opportunities to the landscape discipline. This symposium brings together professionals from several countries to discuss the complex social, political, and environmental realities engaged in their work. From the creation of ecological corridors in Bogota to urbanization in the Galapagos Islands, these designers interpret landscape through a range of lenses that include urbanism, architecture...
Venture to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, to explore the city that’s shaped like a bird in flight. Boasting innovative architecture, imaginative artwork, and symmetrical designs, Brasilia is the ultimate eye candy. Begin your travels at the Praca dos Tres Poderes, the plaza that the city revolves around. Here you can marvel at Planalto Palace’s magnificent design—the work of famed architect Oscar Niemeyer. Abstract structures and odd-shaped buildings lay scattered around the parallel-running avenues at the Monumental Axis. Discover the intricate construction of the Ministry of Justice and Itamaraty Palace, which is the headquarters for the Ministry of External Relations. The National Congress features a structure that looks like a bowl, while the National Museum sits inside a dome-sh...
Modern time wonder Brasilia in Brazil. Brasilia is Brazil’s capital city and was constructed in the nineteen fifties in futuristic style, a veritable playground for both planners and architects and also a considerable challenge for both builders and civil engineers. The general idea had been to transform what could have been fifty years of building work into just five, but they actually achieved it in just four! Brasilia was recognised as a symbol of outstanding design and in 1987 it was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Congresso Nacional is the city’s most famous building complex, Oscar Niemeyer’s personal masterpiece, with a dome and bowl linked by two towers and corridors with photo galleries and countless government offices that form a mighty centre of administrative...

Travel video about destination Mato Grosso in Brazil. Mato Grosso is the third largest federal state in Brasilia. It is a combination of unique swampland with remarkable fauna and flora and extensive high plains. We begin our journey across Mato Grosso in Cuibaba, its capital, the first impression of which is of a modern city. The old town has retained the character of old with narrow lanes, and small, colourful buildings. The former gold prospector’s town that was established around the spring of Corrego Da Prainha Creek, has been transformed into a lively city. The Chapada Dos Guimarães National Park was founded in 1989 and features steep-sloped table mountains. It is Brazil's Wild West whose earthiness and mystical scenery curls around the geodetic centre of South America. The park is a u...

São Paulo, one of the world’s most populated cities, is Brazil’s exciting hub of business, culture, creativity and hospitality. ‘Sampa’ was founded in 1554, at the spot of the historic Pátio do Colégio. Once home to the region’s first main Catholic Church, the central Praça da Sé now houses the towering Metropolitan Cathedral. Two beautiful historic buildings have been transformed into Cultural Centers: The Banco do Brazil and the Júlio Prestes Train Station. While the city’s most esteemed museums are the São Paulo Museum of Art, on the famous Avenida Paulista, and the Pinacoteca do Estado. The Viaduto Santa Ifigenia, an art nouveau bridge, leads pedestrians to the ornate Municipal Theatre, with its impressive Sala São Paulo concert hall. Don’t miss Ibirapuera Park, which is home to ...
http://www.expedia.com/Rio-de-Janeiro.d178301.Destination-Travel-Guides The early morning in Rio de Janeiro brings quiet, misty coastlines and pink-purple sunrises. The Brazilian locals are up and about soon enough, piling onto the beautiful beaches and expressing themselves through artwork, dance, and the ubiquitous Rio de Janeiro partying. A Rio de Janeiro tour must stop at Christ the Redeemer, the ubiquitous statue that watches over the city from above the Tijuca National Forest. Take the cable car to the lookout point on Sugarloaf Mountain, the city’s iconic peak, and try not to look down – it’s a long way to drop! After a morning spent in nature, your Rio de Janeiro sightseeing should continue in the city proper. Join the sun worshippers at Copacabana, where you can stake out a pa...

This is the filter I used to shoot in this video from Brasilia. It's a 4-stop graduated ND filter: http://amzn.to/1BQjyNu Be sure to check out http://www.brendansadventures.com for more of my photography I had the chance to visit Brasilia, Brazil and had a couple days to shoot some photography. I know Brasilia isn't much of a travel destination, but the architectural photography opportunities in the city are fantastic. In fact, I feel like I didn't have nearly enough time to capture what I wanted to in the city. Brasilia is a modern architectural wonder and I really could have spent a week and not shot everything I wanted to. Still, considering I only had 2 evenings free to shoot, I think I got some pretty cool images!
